Our client, a major advertising agency was looking to launch a new digital marketing division, based on the use of web technology for sophisticated marketing initiatives. However, its existing IT systems were simply not capable of supporting growth into this area.
The organisation decided to press ahead with the launch strategy, but needed to address the business risk created by lack of IT capability.
Alium was asked to find an
interim IT Director who could ensure that the IT infrastructure was capable of supporting the new division, within fairly tight cost constraints. The interim management executive recommended a three year IT outsource strategy, which and reduced the overheads of the in-house l IT department. The
interim manager led a vendor selection process on behalf of the client – whilst implementing a short-term solution to protect the clients during contract negotiations. He ensured that the support costs were minimised and existing staff were transferred to the outsourcer under TUPE regulations.
With the immediate risk mitigated, the interim management professional then focused on long-term strategy, evaluating existing systems according to business risk and recommending replacement systems and a priority implementation plan. As a result of the
interim executive's initiatives, the company now has professional IT support with reliable systems.
