0Why Alium Don’t Post Interim Jobs
Since joining Alium Partners to run the marketing function at the beginning of 2012, I sometimes get asked why, as an interim service provider, we do not post interim jobs directly on our website. Surely, some people suggest, we are missing a trick by not advertising the assignments we currently have? However this is not a view expressed by the majority of our interim candidates or our clients, neither of whom see any tangible need for a job board style function on the Alium Partners website.
Candidate Experience
Our approach to finding an interim for a role is much more personal than advertising the position and sifting through applications. We prefer to approach the right candidates directly, with a tacit understanding of their skills and expertise beforehand, rather than the other way round. Contacting people in this way means we are able to ensure the right fit first time, creating satisfaction for both client and candidate.
As Rosie Archer discussed in her recent post on The Importance of Working Relationships, we do not advocate a cold calling, mass emailing methodology to fill an assignment. Instead, we build strong, long lasting relationships with our candidates and only present them with opportunities that are right for them. Therefore, if you are an interim looking for new assignments through us, the first step is register with us so we can start the process of building that relationship. Only then will we be in a position to contact you with relevant interim jobs. Equally important to us, and any quality provider, is that you keep your profile up to date with us – e.g. use our CV Update page.
Client Relationships
Another important reason for not posting interim jobs directly on our website, is the private and confidential nature of the relationships with our clients. Interim experts are hired when a company goes through a major change or transformation. It is a simple fact that clients may not want a sensitive role to go to market and / or simply may not have the time to put the job to market. A fast turnaround is often required and client wishes must be respected. With a talent pool of over 10,000 interim professionals, and an extensive network of contacts across multiple sectors, there is little need for us to post a job opportunity to find a candidate. Our policy is therefore never to post a job on a public job board, unless expressly asked to do so.
So what do we post?
Finally we believe that resources such as our blog, social media channels, e-books and slideshare presentations, as well as events we hold, provide interim users and managers with much more value than simply posting jobs. Feedback from our clients and candidates is shaping these resources with a focus on industry insights and relevant subject matter.
Sharing these insights from business leaders and our interim pool, as well as our own consultants’ extensive knowledge and experience, helps our candidates improve their skills and our clients effectively fill their vacancies.
